Happy 27th ANNIVERSARY Gasthaus
A little late in the day, but we wanted to mention today is our 27th anniversary. This anniversary would not have been possible without the support and loyal patronage of our guests, and the hard work of our staff. We are thankful for both and look forward to more normal times ahead.

Months after remodeling the space that used to be a children’s clothing store in the Brownsboro Center, Louisville, we opened the Gasthaus on December 18, 1993.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank our guests for 17 years of your loyal support and look forward to serving delicious and authentic German food for many more years to come.

WOW! Almost hard to believe it’s already been 15 years of Gasthaus GemĂŒtlichkeit. Â What a great ride it’s been. Â We would like to thank all of our loyal customers and hope to continue serving you for many years in the future.
After months of renovating the space that was formerly Gingerbread children’s clothing store, we opened the doors on December 18, 1993. Â Fortunately, Gingerbread’s store already had the little houses built, we removed the two in the back to make room for a kitchen and the restrooms. Â Our very first customer was Ingeborg Chandler, below, Â a native of Germany. Â Back then we still had a deli and she bought some German sausage. Â I still remember how surprised she was to see a German restaurant in the area. Â

We started serving lunch and dinner at first. Â After a while that proved to be too exhausting for a small family business as ours and we decided to concentrate all our efforts on dinner time only. Â This way we can perfect our service, food and ambiance to you, our customer.
Over the years we’ve seen customers bring their young children to dinner. Â Children who have now grown into young adults. Â As you can see below one of our own, Molly, Annemarie and Michael’s first grand-child, was just a little baby when we first opened. She was born in 1995.

Also, we would also like to thank the wonderful staff, ESPECIALLY our kitchen staff: Jean-Phillipe and Jason. Â You guys ROCK!!! Â We’re a team and without them we couldn’t do it all. Thanks guys!

A Little Gasthaus History
***The Gasthaus German Restaurant is currently closed to in-house dining until further notice***
On December 18th, 1993, after months of remodeling, the Greipel Family, all born and raised in Germany, except the oldest daughter Simone (born in London, England), finally opened the âGasthausâ at its present location.
Executive chef/owner Michael Greipel together with his kitchen team, create authentic dishes from Old World recipes. Annemarie Greipel, her daughter Nina and the friendly staff are responsible for taking care of the guests, many of them regulars.
Since opening in 1993, the menu has grown from a few items to a large selection. Everything is made from scratch, using only the finest and freshest ingredients. Michael handpicks all his meats, fruits and vegetables daily. Annemarie and her daughter Nina make all the desserts daily, in house from family recipes.
While most of the entrees are âa la carteâ, special requests are gladly accommodated after a short consultation with the chefs.
Parties and take-out orders are welcomed.
The Gasthaus can seat approximately 60-70 people. The dĂ©cor, which includes two âChalets,â is a mixture of family pictures and personal items from the Greipelâs home in Germany (Bochum) and gifts from guests. A family member painted the two murals on the walls. The female servers, several of them from Germany or Europe, wear traditional Dirndl dresses.
The whole restaurant is available for private parties or special occasions. There has even been a real wedding in one of the âChaletsâ. For many years âWave 3â TV (NBC affiliate) has broadcast a live show from the restaurant.
The Gasthaus Team has taken part in cooking demonstrations on TV as well as the âHome and Garden Showâ.
The Gasthaus consistently receives positive reviews from newspapers and magazines. The âGuide to the Best Restaurants in Americaâ has named the Gasthaus âThe Best German Restaurantâ in Louisville for 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016.
People visit from all over America and the world, which the guest books confirm. The whole Gasthaus Team, many of them having been there since âday one,â take great pride in everything they do.
The Gasthaus is conveniently located on the corner of I-264 (Watterson Express Way), Brownsboro Road and Rudy Lane. The address is 4812 Brownsboro Center, Louisville, Ky 40207.
We are currently close for in-house dining as we are searching for a buyer with a German Heart to take over the restaurant. We thank you for your understanding!
