GASTHAUS: got 'kraut?

Louisville's ONLY German Restaurant

Storm damage in St. Matthews

Last night we had a strong thunderstorm. Around 9pm we watched a white wall of rain outside the restaurant blasting the parking lot at an angle. That’s how strong the wind and rain were. But after a few minutes everything seemed normal again. “Seemed” that is.
The next day the news reported that Louisville got hit by a tornado. Among the damaged areas was Shelbyville Road/ I264, which is about 3 miles from the restaurant. Scary to know how close it hit.
Currently, there are 15,000 LG&E customers waiting for their power to get turned back on. And today we had several of our customers visit us for dinner who have had no power since last night. Hopefully, everything will be back to normal soon.

It’s all in the details

gasthaus-tiles1.jpg

The statement “It’s all in the details”, is evident when you come to our restaurant. Over the years we have added little pieces of decor giving the restaurant a more personal touch. Most of these items are straight from Germany and some have a very special family history.
Guests often ask us about the teddy bears placed in the lattice of the large house. Some are gifts from friends and some of them have been our toys…way back when.

Stay tuned, there’s more.

Bier Braten

Our wonderful kitchen staff has created yet another delicious dish. This week’s special is Bavarian BIER BRATEN. It is tender pork loin, oven-roasted in dark beer and vegetables served with Spaetzle and Red Cabbage. Lecker!bierbraten.jpg
